A Day I Will NEVER Forget!

Hello Everyone, welcome to Cagora!

I would like to share with you one of the most memorable days of my 57 years... I spent the day helping with a house for a devoted Christian Family that has given so much of their lives to their paralyzed son so that his tallents could be realized while maintaining their committment to family principles and unity.  This time and resource committment of the entire family did not allow the needed repairs and ammendments to their older home.  So a NEW CUSTOM HOME is being built for them. Here is a link to the website:     http://www.eliteextremedream.com/about_the_family.html

One program that really touches my heart is Extreme Home Makeover.  I had the opportunity to spend the day with the crew and volunteers at the Hughes Home In Louisville, KY (Actually Buchel a small incorporated section of Louisville, KY).  All I can say is WOW!  If any of you have the time and this crew is in your area, I recommend spending some time volunteering...you will not come back the same!

The general consensus of every volunteer and worker was that entering this worksite was like walking into "another ideal world".  How refreshing to see the diversity of people all working for a common cause!  There was no racial divide, no bolstering of special empowerment...everyone worked in unity and a cooperative spirit whether a Designer, Head Builder, Production Crew, Construction Worker, or just a volunteer like myself.  A totally frenzied area with electricians, landscapers, roofers, HVAC people, heavy equipment operators, media, and spectators all coming together offering a helping hand to one another as their time allowed.  Just think...What would happen if OUR WORLD could step into this mindset and set petty differences aside, work hand in hand to make this a better world?  It is being done every day with this group!

Every worker has delicious food, beverages, and snacks in abundance! While sitting down for a quick bite to eat, I had the opportunity to talk with one of the Elite Construction people and ABC Extreme Home Makeover production crew.  I was told how the construction crew went to the site before building and got in a huddle to pray over the construction and the days ahead.  The sincerity and compassion in his explaination of the many days of preperation and the 35 person, family-owned company's devotion to this volunteered project and the dedication from each of his members and their families to participate in this building for the Hughes Family.  I was almost in tears!  Needless to say, every person on this site was not there for glory or glamour, but to help another in their overall goals as well as daily work activity.

My day involved helping where needed...that was doing a little bit of everything!  I cleaned up around the site and in the house, helped with landscaping, paving the patio, assisting an electrician (actually just handing him what was needed as he was working on a vaulted ceiling), and wherever else I was needed.

Whether you are actively involved in your community volunteering now or not, I guarantee that after this experience, you will be!  As I said before...go to the ABC Extreme Home Makeover Website  and take a look at the blog for their upcoming schedule.  http://abc.go.com/primetime/xtremehome/index

Thanks for reading this, bye for now...

I remember seeing the father pushing the wheelchair

What an uplifting story!

I recall seeing the father pushing the wheelchair at the marching band.

It's so great to see fathers who are there for their families.

And - I agree about the makeover team - I've watched several episodes of what

they do.  Inspiring.  You're so lucky to have been able to participate.

Saw it on the news

What a fantastic opportunity to be in on that. I saw the news clip about the makeover. Have to admit, when they were talking about the father taking him and marching with him and the band made me cry. There just aren't enough parents willing to do that much for their kids. The house was beautiful and it is great to know someone who helped to make that family's dream come true.

Great job!
